Graber Power-Tap™ www.power-tap.com

An affordable and accurate power measuring device, the Power-Tap™, is now available to you. This is an exciting development as it offers us a way to dramatically improve your training plans.

Why Power?
Workout duration is easy to measure, but the focus of RST's training plans is intensity and the most common way of measuring training intensity on the bike is by using a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM). But heart rate-based training has its limitations, one being that your HR is subject to certain conditions such as air temperature, humidity, nervousness and diet.

Power is a direct measure of the rate of work produced by a cyclist, therefore power (measured in Watts) is an excellent guage of training intensity. We also know that power is directly related to cycling performance. The more power you can generate, the greater your potential is for getting good results in races.

Torque and wheel speed are measured within the hub. The information is then transmitted via digital radio frequency to a receiver mounted on the seatstay or chainstay of a bicycle which is wired to a handlebar-mounted cycle computer. The computer makes the calculations necessary to display a variety of power functions as well as all the standard cycle computer and heart rate functions.

In the past, the obstacle to using power to measure intensity on the road or trail was the cost of accurate, reliable and lightweight equipment. Now, precise power measurement on a bike is within finanical reach of most of us.
